According to a study, the Illinois ECE research team discovered advancements in the field of microscopy in June 2020, with the development of nanoscale microscopy. The team demonstrated the technique can sense both free-form and fixed-form nanoscale objects across a wide field of view (726-μm × 582-μm) using a low numerical aperture objective. Further, this critical new tool helps in solving challenging problems across many fields of science and engineering, including semiconductor wafer inspection, nanoparticle sensing, material characterization, bio-sensing, virus counting, and microfluidic monitoring. In addition, researchers at University of New South Wales (UNSW) achieved unprecedented resolution capabilities in single-molecule microscopy to detect interactions between individual molecules within intact cells. The team of scientists has developed autonomous feedback loops inside a single-molecule microscope that detects and re-aligns the optical path and stage. Further, according to the company sources in November 2019, Swerim invested nearly US$0.85 million (8 million kronor) in the research laboratory for installation of electron microscope, which signifies that there’s would be both improved and faster results for the analysis of microstructures in ceramic, polymeric, and metallic materials. Additionally, in October 2017, Nanotronics raised nearly US$30 million, bringing the total amount raised to about US$71 million. The funding raised accelerated the development of optical inspection technology by Nanotronics as well as boosted its expansion into the Asian region in 2018. These key developments are expected to drive the market growth. However, the maintenance of microscopy devices that requires more effort and time acts as a restraint for the growth of the market.
